Lineage Holder, Yi Zong Internal Martial Arts

LuoDexiu

Luo Dexiu (b. 1956, Taipei) is widely recognized for his pivotal role in preserving and modernizing the Yi Zong lineage of internal martial arts. Gifted with both deep intuition and analytical clarity, he has spent decades not only studying but also systematizing the principles behind traditional Chinese martial systems—particularly Baguazhang, Xingyiquan, and Taijiquan.

Luo’s early martial arts journey began in 1968 under Master Hung I-Hsiang at the Tang Shou Dao school, which synthesized elements of Shaolin, internal boxing, and Chinese kickboxing. During the early 1970s, he actively competed in full-contact fighting events across Taiwan, gaining firsthand experience in real-time application.

In the mid-1970s, his exploration of Xingyiquan deepened his understanding of internal power, leading him to seriously pursue Baguazhang. He visited many of Master Hung’s peers to gain a complete picture of the Yi Zong system. During his military service in southern Taiwan (1977–1979), he had the rare opportunity to learn from a student of Sun Xikun, which gave him deeper insight into the Cheng-style Baguazhang framework.

After years of intensive training and research, Luo concluded that while the Yi Zong system possessed immense depth, it lacked a fully articulated pedagogical structure. Beginning in 1990, he took on the responsibility of organizing and teaching what he now refers to as Yi Zong Baguazhang, with a clear, principle-based methodology. His students now teach across Europe, the United States, and the Middle East, continuing his legacy of clarity, honesty, and internal development.

Founder & Lead Instructor, BiYan Institute

Chang Wenteng

Chang Wenteng is the senior student and last indoor disciple of Luo Dexiu, founder of Yizong Baguazhang. For nearly 15 years, he has engaged in intensive weekly private study under Master Luo, developing a refined understanding of internal mechanics, structural alignment, and movement strategy.

Graduating with a degree in Physics from National Chiao Tung University, Wenteng applies a systems-level analytical approach to martial practice—decoding principles through the lens of force dynamics and structural mechanics. This scientific foundation enables him to bridge traditional martial concepts with clear, functional explanations.

His martial experience spans disciplines, from Yagyu Shinkage-ryu swordsmanship to MMA competition, demonstrating his ability to adapt and integrate core principles across diverse systems.

Wenteng’s teaching transcends stylistic boundaries. He focuses on shared internal principles that hold true regardless of form or lineage, helping practitioners develop proprioception, timing, and multi-joint coordination. His method is grounded in sensory clarity and technical simplicity, guiding students toward profound functional insight and cross-system coherence.

Rather than promoting stylized movement or emotional narratives, Wenteng’s work emphasizes applicable, real-world skill—the transmission of embodied knowledge through dedicated practice.
